Inheritance & Family Dispute Mediation
Resolving disagreements about inheritance, property, money and family businesses
Not every family dispute concerns divorce or separation.
Arguments over an inheritance, a family property, money or a family business can be particularly difficult because financial and legal issues are often combined with longstanding family relationships and emotions.
Mediation provides a private and confidential environment in which family members can discuss both the practical issues and the wider disagreement and explore whether an agreed solution can be found.
What family and inheritance disputes can be mediated?
Mediation can help with disagreements involving:
- Wills and estates
- Inheritance
- The division or ownership of family property
- Money and financial arrangements
- Family businesses
- Disagreements between siblings
- Parents and adult children
- Grandparents and wider family members
- Other disputes involving family assets or arrangements
Mediation can take place alongside legal advice and can be used whether or not solicitors are already involved or court proceedings have started.
How can mediation help?
Court proceedings may ultimately determine legal rights, but they cannot always address the wider family issues behind a dispute.
Mediation gives family members an opportunity to explain their position, understand the concerns of others and explore more flexible solutions. Where possible, it can also help avoid further damage to family relationships.
The mediator does not decide who is right or impose a settlement. The family members themselves remain in control of whether an agreement is reached.
